Kemaman

The Ma’Daerah Turtle Sanctuary was set up to conserve and manage the turtles in Terengganu. A relatively new establishment, the Turtle Sanctuary was set up in 1999. This hatchery and interpretation centre hopes to protect marine turtles in their natural habitat.  It is a sponsorship programme by BP Petronas Acetyls Sdn Bhd. WWF Malaysia also organises education and awareness programmes at this venue for the purpose of educating the public in turtle conservation.  The centre is located in Kemaman, on the east coast of Terengganu. This secluded beach is a 1.7km stretch sandy ground fringed by coastal hill forest. There is only one rough road leading to the centre.
